the Dalai Lama was telling me!

This quote from the Dalai Lama now hangs on a corkboard beside where I spend my days reflecting, writing; trying to keep the dog from downstairs and my extremely few tasks complete.  It is grimly mocking me tonight for being foolish.

It reads (for clarity):

The Dalai Lama, when asked what surprised him most about humanity, he said:

“Man.
Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money.
Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health.
And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present;
the result being that he does not live in the present or the future;
he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”

I say grimly mocking me because it was on my desk at work for almost 11 years.  I placed it there after finding it online, saying to myself “YES! SO TRUE”.  I would even stop to read it again and again on long days and nights while working too long; some days so sick I shouldn’t have been there to read it.

The simple words, align all too well and describe my life – more accurately, how I let my life play out until recently.  How many times did I say I will start tomorrow?  Tomorrow or Monday.  Yeah Monday, or as soon as this project is over.  January…my birthday maybe…

It taunts me for not heeding it sooner.

It mocks me for it.

But I cannot take it down.  I refuse.  I have been blessed with the ability to reinvent myself before, so let’s do it again.

I hear you brother…I finally understand with all I am.

I have wasted enough.
